A dancer and performer for different companies, Sophie Bocquet has been creating solos and performances combining dance, theatre and music since 2000.
Having made several significant encounters with drama while training and performing dance, she feels able to work with contemporary texts and to consider writing her own.
Both the importance of staging and the dramatic intent at the core of the construction of any theatre piece can be found in her work as a choreographer.
Linking dance and theatre is at the core of her written work.
This allows her to conjure up an imaginative world, which opens the door to potentialities of fiction, transgressive space, montage and creative writing.
“My pieces are often about stories of individuals seeking to escape the banality of their daily lives. I avoid mannerisms and caricatures. Candid, not ripe enough to reach maturity, they are incapable of facing the outside world. Addicted to failure, ever waiting for better tomorrows. They continue devising plans for escape.

In my first piece, “GOLDEN GIRL”, I was led to choreographic choices by the narrative intent. In the piece “SLIM”, the choreography and the desire for a certain state of body in tension induced the necessity of the texts used.
In the creation project “LILY”, the writing of the choreography belongs to a space  independent from the text. What is not defined between them will provide meaning.
Involving fortuitous and random encounters, each of the writings (dance and text) will create its own breaks.

When I start working on a piece, I collect: readings, impressions, choreographic matter.
I look for simple forms, easy to identify. I draw my inspiration from popular culture, stories evoked in songs, refrains, clichés, and all these things anchored in the collective unconscious, to construct my own stories.

The desire to find specific energies, intensities, “expressions”, forms, directs the construction of space and of rhythm.
I begin with concrete intentions for movement, I immerse myself in a situation, a state.
I proceed through accumulation, and work from observations.
I act dance sequences which are written and others which are much freer.
In both cases, it’s the tension born from things which holds my interest.
 

Dans les deux cas, c'est la tension qui naît des choses qui m’intéresse.
Il n’y a pas de décor dans mes pièces, et pourtant j’aimerai que l’on voie surgir des images, comme on les verrait dans un court métrage.

Je cherche à écrire une langue “simple”, brève, efficace, économe, pour capter les sentiments sans faire de commentaires”.
